MAP 1 Feedback

This is my MAP 1 feedback for the project that I am currently doing. the images above show all of the paperwork that has been given to me to look back at. it shows me the level that I am working at the moment as well as what level my skills are at in terms of presentation styles and time management and locations that I have chosen to use. I worked on the feedback I was given and made sure that the areas that where suggested for improvement. I believe the feedback that I was given was right and fit where I was at that stage in the process. All the way though MAP1 I was able to track my performance on my own personal tracker which allowed me to chart my own progress swell as giving the teachers a good understanding of how I was using and planning my time. overall I am happy with the progress I am making but I will need to make sure that I continue to make further progress and complete all the weekly objectives to get more marks for this section.

Choosing the song

Choosing the song

I choose this song, as I believed it was the right one for my ability to create in the time allocated to this project. I started off looking at a range of music videos and artists and I had to narrow down my music to a particular music genre, I felt that the alternative rock genre suited me the most and I particularly liked the theme and the creativity in that type of video. From there I started to research the genre that I had decided upon and look at videos around that, I looked into the history and the development of the genre and also closely related genres and sub-genres. My aim from this was to gather as much information on the genre that would help me in the development of my own. I started too look into shots related to my theme and songs around the genre and how they linked to the message or the story and pace of the video. I looked and researched music video shots and camera angles, music adverts and digipaks all to see how it was professionally done. From there I started to plan by researching my target audience and understanding what people like in the videos, I created a questionnaire and sent it out to get response’s and collect valuable data, from there I found my audience and was able to create my vision around the info I had found. My whole point of choosing this song unparticular is not just because it is a slow and genital song it is because it has a very deep meaning and I felt that I could create a story that doers its best to show that meaning in a unique way. I don’t believe that my interpretation is exactly how the artists wrote it to be but that is why I believe that this song is really good is because everyone can take there own meaning from it and I believe people will watch this and think it is interesting because its somebody’s take on the song. The talk of fog and light and dark, happy and sad appealed to me as some one who works with stage lighting and sound and it was a challenge that I felt that I could take on as I felt that I had the necessary equipment and creative knowledge to complete it.

Editing Process - Keane Seafog

This screenshot was taken after my final editing part on the 9th December. It shows the editing software that I used for this project, which is final cut. This software is most up to date and took a bit of time to get used to due to the layout changing. But it turned out to be the most useful application for editing videos that I have ever used; it has some really good features and effects. It allows you to edit and create a video with ease due to its simple design. The effects are easy to find and simple to add to your timeline because of it large collection of transitions and other effects nicely organised in too eight folders.

The picture above shows my final cuts for my music video, and all the cuts and video clips that have gone into the final product. I have spent along time on this video and have tried a lot of different camera angles and shots during the recording and development stage, myself and the actors communicated a lot on set and off on the design of each location and what we thought was good to include in each shot, and as everything there was a lot of debate into where the video was going and what we wanted to show but we always managed to agree on the theme and the feeling that we wanted to show in the video. As I was the main director I felt that I need multiple shots and camera angles in each location as I felt that it would be easier to edit if I had clips to fall back on, obviously theses shots fit in with what I was trying to show and helped me develop my camera and creative skills as the project went on. As the main cameraman I made it my objective from the start to capture the highest quality video shots that I could, I tried many cameras from digital camcorders to professional DSLR’S but in the end I found the best camera for this video and one of the best camera’s out now which is the new iPhone 6 plus which has brilliant graphics and fantastic video stabilisation which is perfect for some of the slow pan’s and tilts that are included in the video. I have used a Toshiba camera in my filming for some of the locations such as the beach and field section and once I had edited these shots and put some stabilisation effects on them they matched the quality of the iPhone which I was really happy with as the video looks like it has been filmed on the same camera all the way though. One of the features I really liked about the final cut software is that it auto saves, which is really good for editors as you can sometimes forget. Another thing is that there is no need to render all the time, which saves time and gives more time to editing, saving all that hassle when importing loads of clips. The overall layout of the application made it really simple to use and edit my clips and I feel that because of this brilliant software I have been able to create a video that I think is very good and I am really happy with it.

These are the feedback that I received when the rest of the class watched my rough-cut 1. They wrote down three strengths and two improvements. I have written down what was mentioned on the sheets of paper given to me in that lesson above.

I agree with much of what has been said by the other students. This is something that I am continually working on other the lessons that I attend in media. I am happy with the comments that where made about the strengths of the video because that shows that I have carefully planned and researched the video and lyrics and use of shot effectively and that must show in my video hence the positive comments on it.
The improvements section is also very positive in a way as it shows me many ways to improve my video, many of these points I already knew and where working on in rough cut 2.

I am really positive about the feedback that I have received and am working on the above comments, hopefully I can work on the feedback to continually improve to make the next rough cuts better and better so that the final cut is to a high enough standard.
