H2O Water Lighting Effect Test
Lighting Test – h20 water light
This is a staged test on set at the
performance area.
I tested this light because I have only
used it a few times and I like the effect and the colors it gives off. I have
never tried it before in a dark room with smoke and was unsure what the beams
might look like and how wide the beam angle would be. The angle would need to
fill the full wall of the projector screen wall, when I had a pre test I found
out that the lens was too small so I swapped it for the wider one, which was
quick and simple.
The test went well, first I put it in the
shed on top of a projector A/V stand, shone it at the wall in the room I am
using as the performance area, I blew a load of smoke out and used a fan to
make sure that the smoke was light in the air so that the lighting beams would
look even and fluid and not shown in little pieces. In a way I created a haze
in the air, which is a dead soft very thin layer of smoke, which forms when the
smoke cloud has been shaken up and blown about. Haze is the opposite to low
lying fog which occurs when the smoke is made very cold which makes it very
heavy.
When I put the light on I first had a look
at the beam span across the back wall and what I saw looked good. I
experimented with the positioning of it and even tried the lighting against the
white projector screen. This idea did not work because the projector screen is
too small in terms of the size of the wall that it is on. The other idea I tried is to put the light
behind the performer and this did not look right because by the time I had
placed it higher than the performer it was too high to see the effect. The
other problem was you couldn’t see the projected image, which is links well the
theme of the song.
I kept the light on blue because I fits
with the idea of water and the moving flow of mist or cloud. I put the water
moving on the wall instead of the floor because there was not enough room to
see the full effect.
